show me the money is not a research and development motto

It's amazing to see how microsoft employees are so focused on what products are making money..

I can't imagine a similar culture at google.

How do they innovate with such an immediate, "generate cash right away or it's not legitimate" model? Microsoft keeps talking about just how much money they pour into R&D but with a culture that doesn't accept that R&D might not pay off for a decade or three, how can they get anywhere?
